International Society of Behaviorology 2008 Convention
Criteria and Instructions for Presenters

Acceptance: Attendance at the ISB convention is both by priority and by invitation. The invitation attempts to provide a balance between new and established professionals while concurrently addressing all aspects of behaviorological science. The priority ranks full members first, associate members next, then affiliate members by date of membership and registration. The Program Committee provides these explicit criteria since there are a limited number of presentation slots. The number of people who wish to partcipate begins to exceed the available slots. Over the three days, there are eighteen time slots.
Conference Details: As usual, the Convention takes place across the dates March 18, 19. and 20. These are always the dates for the ISB Convention. It always ends on B. F. Skinner’s birthday, March 20th. This year the convention will be held in Calfornia. Dr. Terry Knapp is the Convention Site Coordinator.
The program arrangement is single-track. All attendees are presenters. All therefore attend each other’s presentation. Each presentation session is 50 minutes. The first 20 minutes is for the presentation; the next 30 minutes for interaction with the group. A subsidiary requirement follows from these arrangements: The person who commits to attend commits for all three days of the convention. Note that if there are twenty people (the absolute maximum) at the convention and if one leaves, others have lost five percent of their audience. Presenting and then leaving expresses disrespect to your colleagues. You should arrive on the 17th, preferably in the afternoon. The Convention starts promptly on the morning of the 18th at 8:45 a.m. It ends the evening of the 20th after the Memorial Talk and the Banquet. You should set your departure date for the 21st. We emphasize again: If you cannot attend for the entirety of the convention, please do not register as you would have deprived someone else the opportunity to attend.
Presentations: It should go without saying that the scientific material presented must be cast within Skinner’s Theory of Behavioral Selection. Papers may be theoretical, experimental, or an engineering application, or may combine aspects of all three. Titles and abstracts will be reviewed by the Program Committee along with the Site Coordinator and the Full Members. The abstract should be no longer than 250 words. On your Presenter Information page, please provide your title, abstract, name, email address, organizational affiliation, and discipline (behaviorology or behavior analysis or other—only these three please). A sample copy of the Presenter Page is on the ISB website. Within a week of your sending your Presenter Page with its abstract, you will hear whether it has been accepted. Send the titles and abstract page to the Program Coordinator, Dr. Joyce Tu at <byndfnd@yahoo.com.> As 2009 is the 50th anniversary of the publication of B. F. Skinner’s book Cumulative Record, presentations should favor an analysis of the significance of themes and issues covered in the book.
Requirements: Before submitting your Presenter Page, please register first. The registration fee of 200 dollars should be sent to Secretary-Treasurer Dr. Jerry Ulman at:
            301 S. Hutchinson
            Muncie, IN 47303
Checks should be made payable to: ISB.
The registration fee must be paid and your Presenter Page submitted by November 30, 2008. As soon as the registration fee is paid, your submitted abstract and title will be reviewed. To repeat: Priority is given by dates of registration and submitted abstract and title. We know that contingencies change plans. After acceptance, if it is not possible for you to participate, then please inform us immediately in order to make your presentation slot available. If we are informed of your change of plans by December 29h, you will receive a full refund. If informed by January 8th you will receive a fifty percent refund, $100 of your $200. (We still take a loss with convention costs as most are fixed, and our fees are set for costs not profits.) If you are not present, there will be no refund. The convention site information is on this ISB web page. If you need further information, you may contact Site Coordinator Dr. Terry Knamp at << terryk@nevada.edu >>.
Check Website: Names of those who have registered and whose abstracts and titles have been accepted will be posted on the ISB website. If you wish, we will also post your Keynote or Powerpoint presentation so these can be downloaded and reviewed prior to the convention. If you provide your presentation, it helps people prepare for the discussion phase of your presentation time.
